Shopping With the Broncos

Posted Dec 6, 2011

A group of Broncos visited Sports Authority Tuesday and went shopping with children from Denver Boys and Girls Clubs.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Several Broncos spent their Tuesday evening at Sports Authority in Littleton, shopping with 42 kids from Boys and Girls Clubs of the metro Denver area.

Elvis Dumervil, Demaryius Thomas, Wesley Woodyard, David Bruton, J.D. Walton, Britton Colquitt, Manny Ramirez and Mike Mohamed stopped by to help each child select $125 worth of gifts to bring home to their families.

"Sports Authority is a really big place to go shopping so the kids are running around having fun left and right," Woodyard said. "It's always exciting to see their faces."

This is the fourth year Sports Authority and the Broncos have come together to bring some joy to the community for the holidays.

"The players love it, the kids love it, the store loves it," Sports Authority Marketing Manager Jennifer Hinton said. "It's just a great event."

"We had 42 kids based on need this year," Hinton added, "so it makes us feel really good that they're going to have a nice Christmas."

Each player was assigned a group of kids to explore the store with and it didn't take long before shopping carts were filled with a wide array of gifts from each unique department.

It didn't take long for the players to make some new friends either.

"It's truly a blessing to be able to give back to the community in some way shape or form," Bruton said. "You get to just be around the kids and let them know that people care."

"As a little kid I wish I was in stuff like this," Thomas said. "I was one of the guys that when I was coming up and as I got older, I was still a little kid. I like having fun with kids and that's one of the things I like is to come do this and give back, see little kids, meet new kids and just show my face around the community."
