Schofield Signs With Broncos

Third-round pick Michael Schofield signed his contract with the Broncos on Tuesday, the fifth of Denver's six-man class to sign.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Five down, one to go.

Offensive lineman Michael Schofield, selected in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft out of Michigan, became the fifth member of the draft class to sign his rookie contract Tuesday, a few hours after linebacker Lamin Barrow signed his.

Cody Latimer, Matt Paradis and Corey Nelson signed their rookie contracts yesterday.

The 6-foot-6, 301-pound Schofield played in 52 career games for the Wolverines, making 36 starts -- 26 of which came at right tackle, while the other 10 came at left guard.

The lineman said he's proud of that versatility, but noted at the NFL Scouting Combine that the two positions require different skillsets.

"Everything happens a lot faster at guard," Schofield said. "Obviously the guys are bigger. You’re not going up against a quick D-end, you’re going against a power defensive tackle."

“It gives us a lot of different options," Executive Vice President of Football Operations/General Manager John Elway said after drafting Schofield. "With his versatility he’ll start at tackle and move inside and play some guard also."

With Schofield now under contract, first rounder Bradley Roby is the only unsigned 2014 Broncos draft pick.
