Roster Trimmed to 80

Posted Aug 29, 2011

The Broncos made a handful of transactions Monday -- including releasing cornerback Nate Jones -- to trim their roster to 80 players.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Broncos trimmed their roster to 80 players Monday morning.

Cornerback Nate Jones was released, and running back C.J. Gable, linebackers Braxton Kelley and Deron Mayo, guard Shawn Murphy, tackle Curt Porter and defensive end David Veikune were waived.

Gable, Mayo, Murphy and Porter are rookies, the latter three of which were signed as undrafted college free agents. Kelley and Veikune are third-year players, and Jones is an eighth-year player who saw action in all 16 games with the Broncos last season.

The club must cut its roster to the regular-season limit of 53 players by 4 p.m. MDT on Saturday, Sept. 3.
