Roby Excited to Join a Winner, Ready to Work

Posted May 8, 2014

Ohio State cornerback Bradley Roby didn't expect to be picked by the Broncos but is happy to be on a Super Bowl contender.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Ohio State cornerback Bradley Roby hoped he would be chosen sooner than the penultimate pick of the 2014 NFL Draft's first round, but he wasn't disappointed when he found out who selected him.

"Obviously I thought I was better than some of the guys who got picked before me, but God works in a long way," Roby said on a conference call with Denver media minutes after the Broncos picked him. "I’m very grateful. Just being on a Super Bowl team, being on a course like that early on in my career, it’s great."

Roby expressed excitement about facing Peyton Manning, Demaryius Thomas and Wes Welker every day in practice, and also said he studied Broncos cornerbacks Chris Harris and Aqib Talib frequently during college.

"I’m familiar with the guys there so I just can’t wait to get there and learn as much as I can," Roby said.

The 5'10" 194 pound cornerback finished his career at OSU with eight interceptions, 41 passes defensed and 179 tackles in three seasons. He also scored five career touchdowns--two on defense and three on special teams--according to his college profile.

Roby said he didn't have any indication that the Broncos, who didn't bring him in for a pre-draft visit, were interested. When the pick came in, Roby was surprised, but pleasantly so.

"Of course, you’re sitting there, you’re getting nervous, you’re family is nervous and that, but I played it calm," Roby said. "Just to know that I’m in a place like Denver, I don’t think it could have been any better."
