Reports: Broncos to visit with Russell Okung

Posted Mar 16, 2016

The Broncos are expected to meet with the veteran left tackle, who has been the Seahawks' starter since 2010.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Six days after signing offensive tackle Donald Stephenson, the Broncos are scheduled to meet with Seahawks offensive tackle Russell Okung, according to multiple reports.

Okung, who is also serving as his own agent -- a choice he explained in a piece he wrote for The Players' Tribune last summer -- has visited with the Steelers, Lions and Giants since the new league year began last week.

A 2010 first-round pick of the Seahawks, Okung first moved into the Seahawks' starting lineup at left tackle in Week 4 of his rookie season and was their regular first-team left tackle ever since, earning one Pro Bowl nod.

Okung battled injuries early in his career. From 2010 through midseason of 2013, he missed 15 of 58 regular-season or postseason games. But since recovering from a torn ligament in his toe in 2013, he has played in 41 of a possible 46 games, including the postseason.

The veteran of six NFL seasons suffered a dislocated shoulder in the Seahawks' divisional-round loss at Carolina in January. He expects to be ready to return to full strength at training camp.

At 6-foot-5 and with 36-inch arms and with high intelligence, Okung is a lengthy, prototypical tackle for the Broncos' zone-based scheme. Per the statistics of ProFootballFocus.com, the Oklahoma State product has allowed just 3.5 sacks per season in his career.
