Regular Season Roster Announced

Posted Sep 4, 2010

The Broncos placed Elvis Dumervil and Brandon Stokley on injured reserve and released 10 players on Saturday.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Say hello to your 2010 Denver Broncos.

On Saturday, the Broncos made several transactions to pare the regular-season roster down to 53 players, including placing Elvis Dumervil and Brandon Stokley on injured reserve, releasing 10 players and trading Alphonso Smith to the Detroit Lions to acquire tight end Dan Gronkowski.

Dumervil -- who ranks third in the NFL with 43 sacks since entering the league in 2006 -- and Stokley -- who has amassed 108 receptions for 1,290 yards and 12 touchdowns in three seasons with the Broncos -- both suffered injuries during training camp that have now ended their 2010 seasons.

Stokley will be on injured reserve until he is healthy, at which point he will be waived.

The addition of Gronkowski brings a second-year player who saw time in two games for Detroit last season in his rookie year. The seventh-round pick snagged two passes for 15 yards against the Broncos in Denver's preseason home opener this season.

2009 free agent signee Darrell Reid and 2010 free agent signee Jarvis Green were among the 10 players who were released on Saturday. Kevin Alexander, Marquez Branson, Britt Davis, Riar Geer, Kyle McCarthy, Seth Olsen, Jeff Stehle and Worrell Williams were also released.

The final transaction on Saturday involved Air Force alum Ben Garland, who was placed on the reserve/military list. The college free agent started 34 of 39 career games on the defensive line at Air Force and earned second-team All-Mountain West Conference honors in his senior year.
