The Broncos signed their first 2014 NFL Draft pick on Monday -- seventh-round linebacker
Nelson's final year at Oklahoma was cut short by a partially torn pectoral muscle, but he still managed to notch 27 tackles, three tackles for loss, a sack, four pass breakups and an interception that he returned for a touchdown that season.
An Academic All-Big 12 second-team member in 2012 and honorable mention All-Big 12 honoree in 2011, Nelson notched 153 total tackles in his career, including 17.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.
Prior to his injury as a senior -- which he said he recovered fully from two-and-a-half months ahead of schedule -- Nelson had played in every possible game, including all 14 as a true freshman.
"I have a knack for finding the ball. Explosive, fast, can run sideline to sideline, pretty strong," Nelson said on his first conference call with the Denver media. "And I would say covering and playing inside the box, I can do both of those well since I played in two separate defenses at Oklahoma."
