Mark Robinson Named HS Coach of the Week

Posted Oct 16, 2013

Lakewood High School Coach wins weekly award.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Mark Robinson, Head Coach of Lakewood High School’s football team, was named by the Denver Broncos NFL High School Coach of the Week presented by the Colorado National Guard.

Robinson’s Tigers (2-5) – who field just three seniors – came away with an upset against the No. 9 Arapahoe Warriors (5-2) 46-39. The Tigers score late in the game on a quarterback sneak after junior Anthony Brown returned a punt 48-yards to the Arapahoe 7-yard line.

Robinson was happy to see a late game break fall his team’s way.

“Finally, a game in which we didn’t lose late. We’ve played some really good teams and made mistake after mistake, and had some calls go against us,” Robinson said. “But it’s a good core group, we’re battling inures and we’re absolutely tiny.”

The Tigers' head coach is from Topeka, Kan. but was a linebacker and running back at Lakewood in the mid-1980s. He continued his football career as a running back at Northern Colorado where he graduated in 1991 with degrees in sociology and business. He completed his master’s in public administration from the University of Pheonix in 2000 is currently a physical education teacher at Lakewood.

Robinson will receive a $2,000 donation from the NFL Foundation and the Colorado National Guard to be used by the Lakewood’s football program. He is one of 10 coaches that will be given the award this season. At the Broncos’ home game on Dec. 12th the Broncos will announce the NFL/Denver Broncos High School Coach of the Year and that winner will receive a $4,000 donation to their football program.
