Manning Wins Two ESPY Awards

Posted Jul 16, 2014

Peyton Manning was honored at the ESPYs Wednesday night for Best NFL Player and Best Record-Breaking Performance.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- After a historic 2013 campaign, the honors continue to roll in for Peyton Manning.

A week after being named to the top spot in NFL Network's "Top 100 Players of 2014," Manning received ESPY awards for Best NFL Player and Best Record-Breaking Performance Wednesday night in Los Angeles.

He was introduced for the latter award by Hall of Famer Dan Marino and reigning NBA MVP Kevin Durant. Durant noted that even in a different sport, he has "learned about winning" from watching Manning. Marino praised Manning for claiming virtually all of the records Marino once set.

Manning said in his speech he was "very honored and very humbled" to receive the award, which recognizes his 2013 campaign that set NFL records for passing yards and passing touchdowns in a season while earning No. 18 his fifth MVP honor.

He also made sure to credit his teammates, whom he called a group of "guys that make it fun for a 38-year-old to come to work every day."

Manning beat out LeSean McCoy, Jamaal Charles, Luke Kuechly and Russell Wilson for Best NFL Player.

He was also nominated for Best Male Athlete, which went to Durant.
