Manning Up for FedEx Award

Posted Sep 24, 2013

After another record-setting performance, Peyton Manning has been named a finalist for the FedEx Air Player of the Week Award.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- After yet another record-setting performance in Monday night’s 37-21 win over the Raiders, Peyton Manning has been named a finalist for the FedEx Air Player of the Week Award.

Manning dazzled a national television audience by completing 32-of-37 passes for 374 yards and three touchdowns against the Raiders – his 12 touchdown passes in the first three games of the season are an NFL record.

It’s the second time this season that Manning has been a finalist for the award – he was named FedEx Air Player of the Week after his historic performance in the Broncos’ 49-27 win over the Ravens in Week 1, when he tied an NFL-record with seven touchdown passes.

Against the Raiders, he was back at it again – completing 86.5 percent of his passes and throwing all three of his touchdowns in the first half, and all three of them to different receivers.

After the game, Manning credited the Broncos’ offensive efficiency to the play-calling of his coaches and the performance of his teammates.

“Just good play-calling. Trying to make good, smart, sound decisions,” Manning said. “I think guys are doing a good job getting open on time. I think guys have a good clock in their head about when to come out of the break versus different coverages. Protection has been good, so it gives you a chance to see the field and try to throw accurate footballs.”

Manning finished the game with a 135.8 QB rating, marking the second time this season he’s finished with a rating higher than 135.0 – he posted a 141.1 QB rating against the Ravens in the opener.

On the season, Manning has thrown for 1,143 yards and 12 touchdowns without an interception.

“All I can say is that it is really amazing to play with a guy of his ability and his leadership,” wide receiver Eric Decker said. “We win games during the week at practice. He makes sure we’re on top of things so when Sunday comes, it is easier. I appreciate the work that he does for us.”
