Manning Takes Home Bert Bell Award

Posted Mar 18, 2014

Peyton Manning was honored by the Maxwell Football Club as the Professional Player of the Year.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The 2013 NFL MVP added another award to his resume Friday.

Quarterback Peyton Manning took home the Maxwell Football Club's Bert Bell Award for Professional Player of the Year.

It's the third time Manning has earned the prestigious honor -- he won in back-to-back seasons in 2003 and 2004.

The award is named in honor of Bert Bell, founder of the Maxwell Football Club and once NFL commissioner.

Voters for the award are NFL coaching staffs and football personnel, members of the Maxwell Football Club and the Pro Writers of America Association as well as local media.

Manning set new NFL records for passing yards -- 5,477 -- and passing touchdowns -- 55 -- in a 2013 season that earned him his record fifth NFL MVP award.

He accepted the Bert Bell award at the 77th Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala in Atlantic City.

“The support the Maxwell Club has in the region and the leadership, of course, that (Maxwell Football Club President) Ron Jaworski’s provided – it’s really special and it’s not normal,” Manning said at the event, according to the Atlantic City Weekly. “There’s a lot of football banquets that were around for a long time and haven’t been able to survive. This one is special and has survived because of the great support of this region, and so I’m really honored to be here.”
