Fox, Broncos On To Week 4

Posted Sep 24, 2013

Head Coach John Fox discussed Monday night's win and said the team's focus is already onto next week's opponent Tuesday afternoon.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Less than 24 hours ago, the Broncos moved to 3-0 with a 37-21 win against the Oakland Raiders.

But Head Coach John Fox and his staff haven't had time to look back.

“We’re on to Philly," he said Tuesday afternoon. "They’ve had 10 days (to prepare), we’re on six. All our focus is on Philadelphia.”

Even without looking at the tape, however, Fox knows he's happy with what he's seen from his team.

“Well, 3-0. It’s hard to be better than that in three games," he said.

Below is a rundown of what Fox addressed in his Tuesday afternoon press conference.

On Philadelphia's offense with Michael Vick at quarterback
“I think it’s a different offense. In Atlanta he was kind of a run, play-action quarterback as well. I think with the advent of the read-option in college football and now coming to our league, it fits him perfectly. He’s explosive. He’s going to have as many explosive runs as any quarterback in the league I would expect. I guess they’re the number one rushing team now—two weeks in a row for us. But he’s operating that offense very well.”

On carryover from preparing for a mobile quarterback in Oakland's Terrelle Pryor
"I likened Pryor a week ago to a young Michael Vick. I think he’s got a lot of talent; he throws the ball very well. So there should be some carry over and that can work for you or against you.”

On LB Nate Irving
“Nate is a young player getting better. I think the coaching staff is doing an excellent job with him. He obviously has put a lot of work into it. He’s got an opportunity, probably the closest thing to an opportunity that he’s gotten in his short career here. He wants to be good and he’s worked very hard and he’ll improve as we go hopefully.”

On whether ball security is a concern with RB Montee Ball
“The other team practices, too. It happens. Show me a back that hasn’t fumbled and I’ll show you a back that has never played. It’s something that obviously we’ve got to get cleaned up. He’ll work at it very hard and we’ll go from there. But he’s still going to play a lot of football for us.”

On T Chris Clark
“Like a lot of things at this time, you remember some of the negative things. He did a lot of good things. What rings true without looking at the tape is the sack-fumble. All-in-all, we have great confidence in Chris and even without looking at the tape, I know he played pretty well.”

On CB Kayvon Webster
“I think probably his biggest play was when he was the lone ranger back on a go-route or a skinny post that (Raiders WR Rod) Streater went flying through there on. We lost our middle safety and I thought he made a terrific play on that. I think that was probably his best play. He’s not afraid of hitting. He’s all over special teams. Special teams coaches like those kinds of guys that can run fast and hit. A couple of times, I would have liked to see him wrap up a little bit more, but he’s gaining valuable experience. We had very good grades on him. He was still on the board when our pick was there and we actually had him graded higher than what we took him.”
