Denver Broncos Close Draft with LB Nelson in Seventh Round

Posted May 10, 2014

In the seventh round of the 2014 NFL Draft, the Broncos selected Oklahoma linebacker Corey Nelson.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- With their final pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Broncos grabbed another linebacker.

Oklahoma linebacker Corey Nelson was the selection at pick No. 242 overall.

Nelson suffered a partially torn pectoral muscle that sidelined him for all but five games in his senior season, but he still managed to notch 27 tackles, three tackles for loss, a sack, four pass breakups and an interception that he returned for a touchdown.

An Academic All-Big 12 second-team member in 2012 and honorable mention All-Big 12 honoree in 2011, Nelson notched 153 total tackles in his career, including 17.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.

Prior to his injury as a senior, Nelson had played in every possible game, including all 14 as a true freshman.

The selection of Nelson caps Denver's draft, which also saw the club draft cornerback Brandon Roby, wide receiver Cody Latimer, offensive lineman Michael Schofield, linebacker Lamin Barrow and offensive lineman Matt Paradis.
