Darrent Williams' Rookie Journal Week 2

Posted Aug 10, 2005

The rookie cornerback shares his thoughts on his first training camp and getting ready for his first preseason game.

"They're going to give me everything they have"

Editor's Note: This is the second of three editions of Darrent's rookie journal. Check back next Wednesday as he talks about his first NFL training camp as a member of the Denver Broncos.

I’m anxious and ready to go to Houston.  I’m from Texas so I have a lot of family and friends coming down to the game to see me.  A lot of people in the stands who are behind me will be great to have.  It’s going to give me a real football feeling, the real NFL feeling for the first time.  I’m really excited about this game, but I’m also very focused on what I need to do for the team.

I think I’ve had a pretty good camp so far.  Picking off passes and breaking up some passes don’t hurt your chances of making the team.

The hardest part of camp so far is practicing twice a day, going the speed we do.  It’s different from a game, but it’s still hard on the body.  I’ve been adjusting and my body is feeling pretty good.  I’ve been working the kinks out and competing every day and getting better.

This past week of camp went pretty well.  I’m adjusting to the altitude and the thin air more each day.  I feel like I’m learning a lot and getting better every day, making sure I’m consistent and work hard enough to stay here.  I’m just ready to get down there to Texas and play this first preseason game.  It’s really going to give me a better look at the NFL and get me ready for it.

I’ll feel more comfortable after this first preseason game, going against guys who aren’t on my team.  They’re going to give me everything they have.  They’re trying to get on the Texans’ team and they’re trying to get better, but I’m ready.
