Colquitt a Bronco Through 2016

Posted Aug 11, 2013

Sunday afternoon, the Broncos and punter Britton Colquitt agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- In the past two seasons, Britton Colquitt has set and subsequently broken his own franchise record for net punting average.

On Sunday, the Broncos and the punter agreed to terms on a deal that will let him try to keep that streak going in orange and blue.

The club and Colquitt worked out a three-year contract extension that will keep him in Denver through the 2016 season.

“I pinch myself every day driving into work that I’m blessed to do this job," Colquitt said when asked about his contract situation back in May. "The fact that you get paid to do this is even better. I think that’s just icing on the cake"

For players with a minimum of 100 punts, Colquitt is the franchise's career leader in gross (46.1) and net (39.5) punting average.

Last season Colquitt's 42.1 net punting average ranked third in the NFL, and even better was his average of just 6.0 yards per return, which ranked second in the league.

He has played in all 16 games in each of the past three seasons for the club.

"I just want to help the team win and want to go further than we did last year," Colquitt said in May. "I think if I’m focused on that, the individual things kind of take care of themselves. That’s all good to get kind of up there in the statistics as long as it helps us win."
