Broncos place OG Ron Leary on IR; sign TE Matt LaCosse to roster

Posted Dec 12, 2017

Matt LaCosse was previously a member of the Giants' practice squad.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos placed offensive guard Ron Leary on injured reserve Tuesday, as the 2017 free-agent signing continues to suffer from a back injury.

Leary was injured in a Nov. 26 meeting with the Oakland Raiders and has missed the Broncos’ previous two games.

The sixth-year pro was perhaps the most stable piece of a changing offensive line and proved to be a valuable addition after the Broncos signed Leary away from Dallas this offseason.

Leary started the Broncos’ first 11 games and was replaced by second-year player Connor McGovern following the injury.

“It’s a back, and those are tricky,” Head Coach Vance Joseph said Friday. “He wants to go. He’s been trying to go for two weeks. It’s just slow [in] getting better.”

The Broncos signed tight end Matt LaCosse off the Giants’ practice squad to replace Leary on the active roster.

LaCosse, an Illinois product, was particularly productive during the Giants’ final preseason game of 2017. The undrafted third-year player caught five passes for 60 yards and two touchdowns.

Wide receiver Hunter Sharp, meanwhile, will head to New York after the Giants signed him to their active roster.
