Broncos make slew of roster moves ahead of Sunday's game vs. Chargers

Posted Oct 21, 2017

The Broncos' roster is now at 53 players.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos’ roster for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers is set.

Denver signed offensive linemen Dillon Day and Elijah Wilkinson and inside linebacker Jerrol Garcia-Williams from its practice squad on Saturday morning to fill its 53-man roster.

The Broncos also placed inside linebacker Corey Nelson on injured reserve and waived defensive lineman Kyle Peko.

Each of the three former practice-squad players should help fill gaps in the Broncos’ roster after Denver was hit by the injury bug this week.

Wilkinson, a tackle, can help provide relief assistance for either Garett Bolles or Allen Barbre, if necessary. Day, meanwhile, provides depth along the interior of the offensive line after injuries to Menelik Watson, Billy Turner and Donald Stephenson forced Denver to move Barbre from guard to tackle. Barbre will make his first start of the season at right tackle Sunday.

Garcia-Williams joins Brandon Marshall, Todd Davis and Zaire Anderson as options at inside linebacker.

Wilkinson, Day and Garcia-Williams would see their first regular-season action of their careers, should they appear in Sunday’s game against the Chargers. Both Wilkinson and Garcia-Williams made the Broncos' practice squad this summer as college free agents. Day has spent parts of the last three seasons on Denver’s practice squad.

The Broncos also made moves to replenish their practice squad Friday, as they signed rookie wide receiver Tim Patrick.

Patrick spent time with both the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers after going undrafted during April’s 2017 NFL Draft. He caught 45 passes for 711 yards and five touchdowns during his senior season at Utah.

River Cracraft, who signed with the Broncos on Wednesday, suffered an injury during Thursday’s practice. Denver placed Cracraft on its practice squad/injured list.
