Broncos Injury Report: DeMarcus Ware dons knee brace

Posted Jan 14, 2016

Ware is recovering from a knee injury, but also recalled how a brace was a part of his biggest season as a pro.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The knee injury that DeMarcus Ware suffered Jan. 3 against the San Diego Chargers isn't going to keep him out of Sunday's game; it wasn't even enough to keep him off the practice field after he had the bye week to rest.

But as he prepared to take the field this week, it got him thinking back to a previous occasion where a knee problem required him to wear a brace: 2008, when he suffered a hyperextended knee during the season but didn't miss any time and finished with a career-high 20 sacks.

"I was getting taped and I said, ‘You know what?’" Ware said. "I was being funny, [saying] ’Well, [several] years ago I had 20 sacks and I wore a brace.’ Sometimes you’re a little superstitious.

"I told [team trainers], 'It's the same type of injury, so I think we need to stick the brace back on there again and let some of that rub over into the postseason.'"

So far, so good.

"Actually, it’s been going really well," Ware said. "I wore a brace when I was with the Cowboys and that was a 20-sack season for me.

"I don’t think it’s going to be a problem. It’s really just protecting my knee and just making sure that, just in case somebody hits it or whatever, that it’s protected. I feel good about that."

Ware has officially been limited in practice the last two days, but expects to play with no restrictions Sunday.

"I’ve been going through all of the plays in practice and doing what I need to do," he said. "I think that there won’t be any limitations in the game."

MORE NOTES FROM PRACTICE:

... OLB Von Miller and DE Malik Jackson returned to practice Thursday after being sent home Wednesday because of illness.

... Guard Robert Myers was out because of an illness for a second consecutive day. As with Miller and Jackson, he was sent home early Wednesday.

Brock Osweiler

... QB Brock Osweiler was at practice, but was limited to warm-up tosses and a workout regimen with strength and conditioning coach Luke Richesson. Osweiler has been dealing with a knee injury the last 11 days and did not practice last week.

Head Coach Gary Kubiak believes Osweiler will be able to practice Friday.

"He's still sore. I think he's going to be there," Kubiak said. "Hopefully we'll do something tomorrow to reassure so that he can be there."

... Guard Max Garcia was limtied Thursday because of a groin injury.
