Broncos Earn Moment of the Week Award

Posted Oct 11, 2013

The Broncos earned the GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Week for their thrilling comeback win over the Cowboys last Sunday.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Broncos’ thrilling 51-48 comeback victory over the Cowboys last Sunday etched its place as an instant classic for many fans – and the team’s late game heroics have now been honored as the GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Week.

The award recognizes the best moment or play of the week that represents determination and perseverance – and, in the Broncos’ case, it was a true team effort.

Trailing 48-41 midway through the fourth quarter, quarterback Peyton Manning guided the Broncos offense on a nine play, 73-yard drive including a critical 16-yard completion to wide receiver Wes Welker on 2nd and 17 that moved the ball to the Cowboys’ 1. On the next play, running back Knowshon Moreno plunged into the end zone, and Matt Prater’s extra point tied the game at 48 with 2:39 to play.

On the ensuing series, linebacker Danny Trevathan dove in front of a Tony Romo pass and intercepted the ball, giving possession back to Denver. Eight plays later, Prater’s 28-yard field goal as time expired sealed the come-from-behind victory for the Broncos.

“It was a great team victory,” Head Coach John Fox said after the game. “It was the first one where we were really behind. I thought this was probably our best character victory as far as coming from behind.”

“This one was tough,” wide receiver Demaryius Thomas added. “You can really tell what a team we’ve got, how we overcome stuff. We were down and we were able to get the ball back and score and win. You find out how hard the team is going to play, and we played all 60 minutes of the game.”
