Broncos' Divisional Round Scenarios

Posted Jan 5, 2013

A look at how this weekend's Wild Card games will determine who the Broncos host next Saturday.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Today at 2:30 p.m. MST, rest assured Broncos players and coaches will be glued to the television.

That's when the Cincinnati Bengals take on the Houston Texans at Reliant Stadium, and Denver's first playoff opponent could be hanging in the balance.

"I'll be sitting there, just watching all the games," defensive end Elvis Dumervil said. "I’ll have my notebook and pad, taking notes.”

If the Bengals, the AFC's No. 6 seed, upset the Texans, Cincinnati will head to Denver for a rematch of Week 9's Bengals-Broncos tilt.

As the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs, the Broncos will face the lowest remaining seed in the Divisional Round. That means if Cincinnati wins, the outcome of the other AFC Wild Card game, No. 4 Baltimore vs. No. 5 Indianapolis, is irrelevant.

However, if Houston wins, all eyes turn to Sunday's 11 a.m. MST matchup between the Colts and Ravens. The winner of that game would travel to Denver for a 2:30 p.m. MST game on Saturday, Jan. 12.

UPDATE: Houston defeated Cincinnati 19-13 on Saturday, which means the Broncos will face the winner of the Indianapolis Colts at the Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional Round of the AFC playoffs.

"We get to watch this weekend to find out who we’re playing," Head Coach John Fox said. "Next week, it starts all over. It’s a new season and we’ll see where we’re at and if we are ready.”
