Broncos Announce Stadium Upgrades

Posted Dec 21, 2012

Sports Authority Field at Mile High will undergo $30 million improvements in the offseason, including a new HD video board.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- With the Broncos repeating as AFC West champions, Sports Authority Field at Mile High will host at least one extra home game in the 2012 postseason.

But whenever the team's home campaign concludes, the stadium will undergo a $30 million upgrade.

By the start of the 2013 season, Denver's home stadium will receive a number of improvements, the most notable of which is a new Daktronics high-definition LED video board above the south end zone that is three times bigger than the current Thundervision screen.

“We take great pride in providing the best possible gameday experience for our fans,” Broncos Senior Vice President of Business Development Mac Freeman said. “As technology continues to evolve, we want to ensure Sports Authority Field at Mile High incorporates the latest advancements in order to remain a state-of-the-art facility.”

Video boards in the northeast and northwest corners of the stadium will also be updated to high definition Daktronics screens and will see a 43 percent increase in size.

In addition, LED ribbon video boards will span the entire third-level facade beginning next season.

Original analog television sets throughout the concourses and public areas will be upgraded to flat screens, the original seating bowl speakers will be replaced and the 12-year-old technology and overall sound system will be upgraded. There will also be a Cisco Stadium Vision IPTV system installation.

"This upgrade is a significant improvement that will deliver high-quality and engaging digital content throughout our stadium," Freeman said.

Other aesthetic improvements will include improved lighting and paint throughout the stadium and large format graphics around the concourses.

The money for the improvements comes from a capital improvement fund that is shared by the Broncos and Metropolitan Football Stadium District.
