Broncos Agree to Terms with Ware

Posted Mar 12, 2014

DeMarcus Ware becomes the third Pro Bowler added by the Broncos during free agency.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. --When Von Miller returns from an ACL injury for the 2014 season, he'll have a new pass rusher to complement him.

The Broncos on Wednesday agreed to terms with free agent defensive end DeMarcus Ware, who has accumulated 117 sacks in his career -- the most in Dallas Cowboys history.

Ware spent the first nine years of his career with Dallas, the team that originally selected him with the 11th overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft.

A seven-time Pro Bowler and seven-time All-Pro, Ware has led the league in sacks twice -- in 2008 and 2010. His 0.83 career sacks per game trail only Pro Football Hall of Famer Reggie White among players appearing in at least 50 games.

He has notched double-digit sacks in all but two of his nine NFL seasons, including his career-high output of 20 quarterback takedowns in 2008. That year, he became the first player since 1994 to post 15 sacks, 25 tackles for loss and five forced fumbles in a single season. Ware's new teammate Miller became the second player to accomplish that feat in 2012.

The second-highest sack producer in the NFL since he entered the league in 2005, Ware also put up 19.5 quarterback takedowns in 2011.

Ware had played in all 16 games in every season of his career until last year, when he missed the first three games of his career due to injury. He has started 140 of his 141 career regular-season games played.
