Broncos Add First Free Agent

Posted Mar 15, 2012

Former Cleveland Browns safety Mike Adams became the first free agent to join the Broncos on Thursday.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- On Thursday, the Broncos added their first free agent of the signing period -- safety Mike Adams.

"It is a great fit for me," Adams said. "The atmosphere is good and it felt right. I didn't have to take any more (visits), it just felt right."

Adams, a ninth-year player, started all 16 games for the Browns last season, accumulating 61 tackles, three interceptions -- which led the club -- six passes defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

The safety played in at least 14 games in each of his five seasons with the Browns, and in two of his three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers at the start of his career.

He has started 50 of his 114 career games played. During that time, Adams has posted 347 tackles, 12 interceptions -- including one returned for a touchdown -- four sacks, 29 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries.

In addition to his play on the field, Adams was recognized in Cleveland for his community involvement and cooperative nature with the press.

He was chosen as the winner of the 2011 Dino Lucarelli Good Guy Award, named for the long-time Browns alumni director and key member of the media relations department.

Adams joins David Bruton, Quinton Carter and Rahim Moore as the fourth safety on Denver's roster.
