Broncos Add Dreessen

Posted Mar 23, 2012

The Broncos added depth at the tight end position with the announcement that the team agreed to terms with Joel Dreessen on Friday.

Englewood, Colo. --The Broncos continued adding to their roster via free agency with the announcement that the team agreed to terms with tight end Joel Dreessen on Friday.

The former Colorado State Ram will enter his seventh NFL season in 2012, having totaled 110 receptions for 1,364 yards and 13 touchdowns in 91 games (34 starts) for the New York Jets (2005) and Houston Texans (2007-11).

Dreessen will provide another red zone target for quarterback Peyton Manning. He is tied for eighth among NFL tight ends with 10 touchdown receptions in the past two seasons.

Dreessen has played all 16 games in each of the past four seasons and is coming off a career-high six-touchdown season in 2011. He was named the Texans’ Ed Block Courage Award Winner for the 2010 season.

A Native of Ida Grove, Iowa, Dreessen was selected in the sixth round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Jets after earning two All-Mountain West Conference First Team honors for Colorado State University. He finished his college career with 123 catches for 1,295 yards and 10 touchdowns with the Rams.

He was an all-state performer at Fort Morgan (Colo.) High School, where he helped the school to the 1999 Colorado 3A State Championship.

With the addition of Dreessen, the Broncos now have four tight ends on their roster as he joins Cornelius Ingram, Virgil Green and Julius Thomas.
