2014 NFL Draft Preview: Wide Receivers

Posted Mar 24, 2014

A look at the top wide receiver prospects in the 2014 NFL Draft.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- In the weeks leading up to the 2014 NFL Draft, DenverBroncos.com is taking a look at the draft prospects position-by-position.

We will devote a week to each group, looking back at some of the Broncos' previous picks at the position and showcasing the top prospects along with providing independent analyst Andrew Mason's take on what the Broncos might do at the position this year.

This week: wide receivers.

Below you will find five of the top prospects at receiver. For a photo gallery of the position group, click here.

TOP PROSPECTS AT THE POSITION:

ODELL BECKHAM
• POSITION: Wide receiver
• COLLEGE: LSU
• HEIGHT: 5'11"
• WEIGHT: 198
• CAREER STATS: 143 rec.; 2,340 yds.; 12 TDs
• COMBINE: 4.43 40-yd. dash; 7 bench reps; 38.5 in. vert. jump
On his family background:
"I'd definitely say it helped out. My mom being a track star and my dad playing football, it definitely made me who I am today. My mom's always coaching me up on the track side and my dad's always helping me with football."
Player
BRANDIN COOKS
Player • POSITION: Wide receiver
• COLLEGE: Oregon State
• HEIGHT: 5'10"
• WEIGHT: 189
• CAREER STATS: 226 rec.; 3,272 yds.; 24 TDs
• COMBINE: 4.33 40-yd. dash; 16 bench reps; 36.0 in. vert. jump
On his biggest strength:
"For me, I’m a playmaker. I’m able to create plays from nothing. Be able to catch a 3-yard ball, I’ll take it the distance. That YAC, yards after the catch. Speed kills and I feel like that’s what I’m going to bring to the game.”
MIKE EVANS
• POSITION: Wide receiver
• COLLEGE: Texas A&M
• HEIGHT: 6'5"
• WEIGHT: 231
• CAREER STATS: 151 rec.; 2,499 yds.; 17 TDs
• COMBINE: 4.53 40-yd. dash; 12 bench reps; 37.0 in. vert. jump
On who he models his game after:
“I get a lot of Vincent Jackson comparisons, and that's a great comparison. But I think Brandon Marshall. He's vicious after the catch, big, physical guy, can go up and get it, blocks real well. So I've modeled my game after him since high school.”
Player
MARQISE LEE
Player • POSITION: Wide receiver
• COLLEGE: USC
• HEIGHT: 6'0"
• WEIGHT: 192
• CAREER STATS: 248 rec.; 3,655 yds.; 29 TDs
• COMBINE: 4.52 40-yd. dash; 38.0 in. vert. jump; 127.0 in. broad jump
On what he'll bring to a team:
"The main thing is I'm going to compete 24-7. No matter what vet is there, who is coming in, what free agent they got, I'm always going to compete and bring a positive mindset to the game. No negativity, not going to question anything, just going to get the job done."
SAMMY WATKINS
• POSITION: Wide receiver
• COLLEGE: Clemson
• HEIGHT: 6'1"
• WEIGHT: 211
• CAREER STATS: 240 rec.; 3,391 yds.; 27 TDs
• COMBINE: 4.43 40-yd. dash; 16 bench reps; 34.0 in. vert. jump
On how playing bigger than his height:
“For me, I try to be physical out there on the field as far as getting off press, blocking down the field. To be that dominant receiver I need to have that total package, Every one knows all wide receivers can catch balls and score, but for me I’m focusing on the little things – blocking, getting off the press and being a physical, dominant receiver.”
