2014 NFL Draft Preview: Pass Rushers

Posted Apr 17, 2014

A look at some of the top defensive ends and outside linebackers in the 2014 NFL Draft.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- In the weeks leading up to the 2014 NFL Draft, DenverBroncos.com is taking a look at the draft prospects position-by-position.

We will devote a week to each group, looking back at some of the Broncos' previous picks at the position and showcasing the top prospects along with providing independent analyst Andrew Mason's take on what the Broncos might do at the position this year.

This week: defensive linemen, which we will divide into defensive tackles and defensive ends/outside linebackers -- the pass-rushers.

Below you will find five of the top prospects at pass rusher. For a photo gallery of the defensive end and outside linebacker position groups, click here.

TOP PROSPECTS AT THE POSITION:

ANTHONY BARR
• POSITION: Outside linebacker
• COLLEGE: UCLA
• HEIGHT: 6'5"
• WEIGHT: 255
• COMBINE: 4.66 40-yd. dash; 15 bench reps; 34.5 in. vert. jump
On Jadeveon Clowney:
"I haven’t really watched any tape on him. I’m very comfortable rushing the passer. I continue to say there’s a lot I need to work on. But to be mentioned with Clowney is pretty cool."
Player
JADEVEON CLOWNEY
Player • POSITION: Defensive end
• COLLEGE: South Carolina
• HEIGHT: 6'6"
• WEIGHT: 266
• COMBINE: 4.53 40-yd. dash; 21 bench reps; 37.5 in. vert. jump
On "The Hit":
"Coming into the next season after The Hit, people were talking about sitting out, all of this, all of that. A lot of people expected stuff that was impossible, like 10 sacks a game, 30 tackles-for-loss. I knew that wasn’t going to happen of course but a lot of people expected it. I just went out there and played my game, hard and physical football like I played my last two years there. We won and got a high ranking.”
KONY EALY
• POSITION: Defensive end
• COLLEGE: Missouri
• HEIGHT: 6'4"
• WEIGHT: 273
• COMBINE: 4.92 40-yd. dash; 22 bench reps; 31.0 in. vert. jump

On his leadership:
“To be honest with you, and it might sound a little cocky, but I believed that I could be a first-round pick when I first got to Mizzou. My strength coach will tell you, I was in his ear everyday and he told me things I needed to hear and things I didn't want to hear and it helped mold me into the young man that I am today."

Player
DEE FORD
Player • POSITION: Defensive end
• COLLEGE: Auburn
• HEIGHT: 6'2"
• WEIGHT: 252

On when he'll be drafted:
"I'm hearing more of the 20-to-30 range. It doesn't matter to me. All I need is the opportunity."
KHALIL MACK
• POSITION: Outside linebacker
• COLLEGE: Buffalo
• HEIGHT: 6'3"
• WEIGHT: 251
• COMBINE: 4.65 40-yd. dash; 23 bench reps; 40.0 in. vert. jump
On his versatility:
“My versatility helps me in a lot of ways. If you have a guy who can rush the passer, as well as drop in coverage, that covers two of the big issues on the defense.”
