Posted Apr 21, 2014

A look at some of the top linebacker prospects in the 2014 NFL Draft.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- In the weeks leading up to the 2014 NFL Draft, DenverBroncos.com is taking a look at the draft prospects position-by-position.

We will devote a week to each group, looking back at some of the Broncos' previous picks at the position and showcasing the top prospects along with providing independent analyst Andrew Mason's take on what the Broncos might do at the position this year.

This week: linebackers.

Below you will find five of the top prospects at linebacker. For a photo gallery of the position group, click here.

TOP PROSPECTS AT THE POSITION:

CHRIS BORLAND
• POSITION: Inside linebacker
• COLLEGE: Wisconsin
• HEIGHT: 5'11"
• WEIGHT: 248
• COMBINE: 4.83 40-yd. dash; 27 bench reps; 31.0 in. vert. jump
On being a complete linebacker:
"I don't know that there are a lot of players that are a better all-around athlete. I don't get maybe a lot of credit for it. I'm small, and straight-line speed is not my strong suit necessarily – but as far as what it takes to play football, I've got all it requires."
Player
C.J. MOSLEY
Player • POSITION: Inside linebacker
• COLLEGE: Alabama
• HEIGHT: 6'2"
• WEIGHT: 234
• COMBINE: 35.0 in. vert. jump; 118.0 in. broad jump; 7.30 3-cone drill
NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah on Mosley:
"His instincts set him apart from everybody else in this draft class. Sometimes he's so good that he's kind of boring. You don't see those 'wow' plays because he's where he needs to be and makes a lot of tackles."
TRENT MURPHY
• POSITION: Outside linebacker
• COLLEGE: Stanford
• HEIGHT: 6'5"
• WEIGHT: 250
• COMBINE: 4.86 40-yd. dash; 19 bench reps; 35.5 in. vert. jump

On being able to play 3-4 outside linebacker:
“It's a huge advantage. Vic Fangio, the 49ers' coordinator, was with us for a year. That's a similar defense. A lot of the plays have been drawn up for scouts and coaches, they're running the same stuff and calling it some of the same stuff. It's a huge advantage."

Player
RYAN SHAZIER
Player • POSITION: Outside linebacker
• COLLEGE: Ohio State
• HEIGHT: 6'1"
• WEIGHT: 237
• COMBINE: 25 bench reps; 42.0 in. vert. jump; 130.0 in. broad jump
On his coverage ability:
"I feel I’m a pretty good cover 'backer. They asked me to cover a lot at Ohio State. We didn’t really run a lot of man, but I know the team I go to, they’re going to help me learn. I know the abilities I have and know what I can do and I can pretty much cover anybody they ask me to.”
SHAYNE SKOV
• POSITION: Inside linebacker
• COLLEGE: Stanford
• HEIGHT: 6'2"
• WEIGHT: 245

On his ideal linebacker spot:
“Depending on teams, I could play all three of the linebacker spots in a 4-3, depending on what they're looking to do. Primarily probably Mike, but I think I've got the athleticism and the instincts to play anywhere on the field.”
