2012 Game-by-Game: Week 16

Posted Jul 24, 2012

In Week 16 of the 2012 season the Broncos will host the Cleveland Browns.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- DenverBroncos.com continues to preview the team's 2012 schedule, including a look at the last time the teams faced off, what to watch for this season and more.

Below is a closer look at the Broncos' Week 16 matchup with the Browns.

Week 16: vs. Cleveland Browns
Opponent o DATE: Sunday, December 23
o TIME: 2:05 p.m. MST
o LOCATION: Sports Authority Field at Mile High
o TELEVISION: CBS*
o OPP. 2011 RECORD: 4-12
o ALL-TIME VS. OPP.: 18-5

THE LAST TIME: Defensive end Elvis Dumervil and the Broncos smothered the Browns offense from start to finish in a 27-6 victory in Week 2 of the 2009 season. Dumervil tied a Broncos record by recording four sacks, all coming in the second half as Denver's defense gave up just 200 yards of total offense on the afternoon.

Making Their Mark | Dominance from Dumervil | The Morning After: Week 2 | BTV Highlights

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Cleveland-Denver is a rivalry with a compelling history that dates back to the 1980s, when John Elway-quarterbacked Broncos teams eliminated the Browns from the playoffs in hard-fought AFC Championship Games in 1986, 1987 and once again in 1989. The Broncos have taken the last nine consecutive matchups in a row.

KEY MATCHUP: Denver DE Elvis Dumervil vs. Cleveland OT Joe Thomas
Thomas is one of the league's top offensive linemen. The former Wisconsin Badger enters his sixth season in the league as one of a small handful of players who has made the Pro Bowl every year dating back to 2007. Dumervil enjoyed a day for the ages the last time he played in a home game against Cleveland, so all eyes will be on both players when No. 92 squares off against No. 72 two days before Christmas.

GAME NOTES: The Broncos will be anxious to return to Sports Authority Field at Mile High for their final two games of the 2012 regular season... After traveling to the West coast to take on the Oakland Raiders on Thursday night in Week 14, Denver heads to the East coast for a trip to Baltimore in Week 15, then returns home to host the Browns and Chiefs in the final two games of the regular season.
