2012 Game-by-Game: Week 11

Posted Jul 17, 2012

In Week 11 of the 2012 season the Broncos will host the Chargers in the second game of the season series.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Over the next week, DenverBroncos.com will continue to preview the team's 2012 schedule, including a look at the last time the teams faced off, what to watch for this season and more.

Below is a closer look at the Broncos' Week 11 matchup as they host a divisional foe, the San Diego Chargers.

Week 11: vs. Chargers
Opponent o DATE: Sunday, November 18
o TIME: 2:15 p.m. MST
o LOCATION: Sports Authority Field at Mile High
o TELEVISION: CBS
o OPP. 2011 RECORD: 8-8
o ALL-TIME VS. OPP.: 55-48-1

THE LAST TIME: Week 5 of last season was the last time the San Diego Chargers came to the Mile High City and they left with a 29-24 road victory. The Broncos offense was stagnant in the first half, mustering only a field goal to go with a defensive touchdown. Tim Tebow replaced Kyle Orton in the second half and led the offense to two fourth-quarter touchdowns, bringing the score to 29-24. At the end of regulation, Tebow's 29-yard pass attempt to Matthew Willis fell incomplete in the end zone and San Diego escaped with the win.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: The Broncos have lost the last three home games against the Chargers and four of the last five. The most recent home victory against the Bolts came in 2008 as the Broncos squeezed one out, 39-38. In Week 11, Denver will try to reverse this trend.

KEY MATCHUP: Rejuvenated Pass Rush vs Peyton Manning
With their 16th pick in the draft, the Chargers snagged defensive end/linebacker Melvin Ingram out of South Carolina, a projected top-10 selection. Ingram was one of the most coveted pass rushers in the 2012 draft after leading the Gamecocks with 13.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks during his senior campaign. He showed impressive versatility as a part of South Carolina's 'hands' team along with his two interceptions on defense. Ingram also flashed impressive speed for a lineman en route to a 68-yard fake-punt touchdown run against Georgia. He could be very disruptive no matter where he plays in the Chargers' defense.

San Diego stayed in the defensive front seven with their second-round pick, drafting Kendall Reyes, a defensive lineman out of Connecticut. The 6'4", 299-pounder is expected to see time on the Bolts' d-line early on in the season.

The Chargers are hoping their top two draft picks in 2012 will help improve their pass rush that finished tied for 23rd in the league with 31 sacks in 2011. On November 18 at Sports Authority Field at Mile High, Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning will put their new and improved front seven to the test.

NOTES: This will be the 106th meeting between the Broncos and Chargers...Denver is 35-16-1 at home against San Diego...Broncos linebacker Von Miller trained with Chargers' first-round pick Melvin Ingram during the offseason.
