2011 NFL Draft Preview: Wide Receivers

Posted Mar 14, 2011

Take a closer look at some of the top prospects at wide receiver as the 2011 NFL Draft approaches.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- In the weeks leading up to the 2011 NFL Draft, DenverBroncos.com is taking a look at the draft prospects position-by-position.

We will devote a week to each group, looking back at some of the Broncos' previous picks at the position and showcasing some of the top prospects through top stories, blogs and Broncos TV videos.

Third in the nine-part series: wide receivers.

Below you will find six of the top prospects at the position. Later in the week, we will profile another prospect to keep an eye on -- Kentucky wideout Randall Cobb.

TOP PROSPECTS AT THE POSITION:

JON BALDWIN
• COLLEGE: Pittsburgh
• HEIGHT: 6'4"
• WEIGHT: 228
• KEY STATISTICS: 128 receptions; 2,337 rec. yds; 16 rec. TDs
On who he models his game after:
"Growing up I watched Larry Fitzgerald. He was at Pitt and then he went on to the NFL so I try to put some of the things he had in his game and incorporate them into my game, how he attacks the football and has great catching ability, I have those traits, jumping ability, speed, I have all of those things."
Player
A.J. GREEN
Player • COLLEGE: Georgia
• HEIGHT: 6'4"
• WEIGHT: 211
• KEY STATISTICS: 166 receptions; 2,619 rec. yds; 23 rec. TDs
On his work ethic:
"Turn on the practice film and the way I prepare week in and week out, just the way I approach practice just like a game."
JULIO JONES
• COLLEGE: Alabama
• HEIGHT: 6'3"
• WEIGHT: 220
• KEY STATISTICS: 179 receptions; 2,653 rec. yds; 15 rec TDs; 2 rushing TDs
On saying he models his game after Ray Lewis:
"I have a defensive mentality. I’m not scared to hit. I’m a physical guy -- I look for that. I like to hit defensive players because they’re not used to getting hit. They’re used to hitting offensive players and getting them out of their comfort zone. So when I hit them, I try to get them out of their comfort zone."
Player
GREG LITTLE
Player • COLLEGE: North Carolina
• HEIGHT: 6'3"
• WEIGHT: 220
• KEY STATISTICS: 86 receptions; 969 rec. yds; 805 rushing yds; 12 total TDs
On being suspended:
"Without saying this the wrong way, I think it was one of the best things that ever happened to me in my life. It was a very pivotal point and a defining moment in my life where I said, 'Hey, this is not who you are. This is something that you've done. You've made a mistake, but you have to move on,' and that's what I'm doing. This has definitely been a great start to my path of redemption. I'm just out to prove that even though we make mistakes, you can still progress."
TORREY SMITH
• COLLEGE: Maryland
• HEIGHT: 6'1"
• WEIGHT: 204
• KEY STATISTICS: 152 receptions; 2,218 rec. yds; 19 rec. TDs; 3 return TDs; 1 rushing TD
On the 2011 NFL Draft:
"It still gives me goose bumps. I’ve watched the draft -- to have an opportunity to have my name called by a team, I’m just embracing it."
Player
TITUS YOUNG
Player • COLLEGE: Boise State
• HEIGHT: 5'11"
• WEIGHT: 174
• KEY STATISTICS: 204 receptions; 3,063 rec. yds; 360 rushing yds; 34 total TDs
On what he's looking forward to:
"I'm looking forward to bringing a lot of excitement to the NFL. I know DeSean Jackson, coming out of college, he did a lot of exciting things for the NFL these past couple of years. I look forward to kind of following his footsteps on the field, and find a good veteran wide receiver to look up to and follow his ways, as well."
