2010 Schedule Released

Posted Apr 20, 2010

By Gray Caldwell

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. --
The Broncos' 2010 schedule was released on Tuesday, and it features six games against five playoff teams, an appearance on Monday Night Football and a trip overseas.

For the fourth consecutive season, the team's first AFC West contest of the season comes against the Oakland Raiders, and the divisional play starts late this year -- the game doesn't come until Week 7.

Here are a few more facts about this year's campaign:

  • For the 19th consecutive year, the Broncos will make at least one appearance on Monday Night Football, the longest active streak in the league. The streak of appearances on the program is the longest active streak in the NFL and is tied for the second-longest streak in league history.
  • Denver will open its season on the road for the sixth consecutive season. Despite that fact, the Broncos own the second-best opening-game record in NFL history (32-17-1), and the team has won its last three openers.
  • With the Indianapolis Colts on the schedule, it marks the 11th consecutive season the Broncos have played at least one of the previous season's two Super Bowl teams.
  • Denver's game against the 49ers marks the fourth time the NFL has hosted a regular-season game in the United Kingdom with the previous three contests played before sellout crowds.
  • Including the trip to London, the Broncos will travel more than 23,000 miles during the 2010 campaign.
  • Weeks 13-15 mark the 14th time in franchise history the team will play three consecutive road games. The most recent stretch came in the 1997 season.
  • After their bye, the Broncos play five AFC West contests in the final eight weeks of the season.
  • Denver's opponents this season sport a combined 2009 record of 124-132-0 -- the 24th toughest schedule in the league.

LAST TIME: The Broncos lost the turnover battle 3-2 to the Jaguars at INVESCO Field at Mile High on Oct. 12, 2008. Ten of Jacksonville's 24 points came off of Denver giveaways, while Denver was unable to put any points on the board following its takeaways en route to a 24-17 loss. Jaguars
VS. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS
SUNDAY, SEP. 19 - 2:05 P.M. MDT - FOX
Seahawks THE SERIES: The Broncos own a commanding 33-18 lead in the regular-season series against the Seahawks, including a 20-5 mark at home. Denver has won 11 of the past 14 matchups.

LAST TIME: In Jay Cutler's first start in a Broncos uniform, Seattle traveled to INVESCO Field at Mile High and left with a 23-20 victory on Dec. 3, 2006. The Broncos turned the ball over five times in the loss. Click here for more on the game.

VS. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
SUNDAY, SEP. 26 - 2:15 P.M. MDT - CBS
Colts THE SERIES: The Broncos own the regular season series against the Colts, 11-7. Since 2001, however, Indianapolis has won five of the teams' seven matchups. Still, the Broncos are 6-2 against Indy in Denver.

LAST TIME: The Broncos and Colts squared off at Lucas Oil Stadium in Week 14 last season. After falling behind 21-0 early, the Broncos scored 16 unanswered points to cut the deficit to five, but Peyton Manning led the Colts on a 14-play, fourth-quarter touchdown drive, helping the Colts to a 28-16 victory. Brandon Marshall set an NFL record with 21 catches in the loss. Click here for more on the game.

AT TENNESSEE TITANS
SUNDAY, OCT. 3 - 12 P.M. CDT - CBS
THE SERIES: Another one of the original AFL teams, the Titans have faced off against the Broncos 34 times in the regular season. Tennessee owns a 20-13-1 series lead, though most of those games occurred when the team was still in Houston. Denver has only played the actual Tennessee Titans twice, winning both contests.

LAST TIME: Each of the Broncos' four touchdowns covered more than 40 yards -- two in the air, one on a punt return and one on a 67-yard run by Andre Hall -- as Denver lit up the Monday Night Football scoreboard on the way to a 34-20 victory on Nov. 19, 2007. Click here for more on the game.

Titans
AT BALTIMORE RAVENS
SUNDAY, OCT. 10 - 1 P.M. EDT - CBS
THE SERIES: The Ravens have one more victory than the Broncos in the teams' previous seven meetings, 4-3, and Denver is 0-3 on the road in the series. However, the Broncos have won two of the past three contests.

LAST TIME: The Broncos allowed 24 points in the second half against Baltimore, falling to the Ravens, 30-7, at M&T Bank Stadium on Nov. 1, 2009. Denver's only touchdown of the game came on a 1-yard scamper by rookie Knowshon Moreno. Click here for more on the game.

Ravens
VS. NEW YORK JETS
SUNDAY, OCT. 17 - 2:05 P.M. MDT - CBS
Jets THE SERIES: The Broncos and Jets are nearly neck-and-neck in the regular-season series after 31 meetings. Denver holds the edge, however, 16-14-1. Since 2000, the Broncos have won three of four.

LAST TIME: In a cold, rainy, Week 13 slugfest, Peyton Hillis became the first running back to break the 100-yard mark against the New York Jets in 2008 en route to a 34-17 victory. Denver's win ended New York's five-game winning streak and marked the team's third-straight victory on the road. Click here for more on the game.

VS. OAKLAND RAIDERS
SUNDAY, OCT. 24 - 2:15 P.M. MDT - CBS
Raiders THE SERIES: The Raiders own an edge against the Broncos in Denver, holding a 26-21-2 regular-season series record.

LAST TIME: With 35 seconds left in regulation, JaMarcus Russell -- inserted into the game for injured starter Charlie Frye -- threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Chaz Schilens, and the Broncos fell to the Raiders, 20-19, on Dec. 20, 2009. Click here for more on the game.

AT SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (London)
SUNDAY, OCT. 31 - 5 P.M. GMT - CBS
THE SERIES: The 49ers are the Broncos' most common preseason opponent -- the two teams have met 32 times -- but the clubs have faced off just 11 times in the regular season. The 12th time will come in 2010 in Wembley Stadium. Denver holds a 6-5 series lead. The Broncos have played seven international games in club history, including one in London during the preseason -- falling to the Los Angeles Rams 28-27 on Aug. 9, 1987. It will be the first time the team has played a regular-season game outside of the United States, however.

LAST TIME: With the season on the line, the Broncos jumped out to a 13-0 second-quarter lead at INVESCO Field at Mile High, but in the end it was San Francisco that came out on top in overtime, 26-23, ending the Broncos' season on New Year's Eve, 2006. Click here for more on the game.

49ers
VS. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
SUNDAY, NOV. 14 - 2:05 P.M. MST - CBS
Chiefs THE SERIES: The Broncos hold a 31-19 advantage against the Chiefs in Denver. At INVESCO Field at Mile High, the Broncos have beaten the Chiefs eight out of their nine meetings.

LAST TIME: Despite a career day from Jabar Gaffney -- 14 catches for 213 yards -- two interception returns for touchdowns by linebacker Derrick Johnson helped the Chiefs to a 44-24 win over the Broncos in the teams' 2009 regular-season finale. Click here for more on the game.

AT SAN DIEGO CHARGERS
MONDAY, NOV. 22 - 5:30 P.M. PST - ESPN (National)
THE SERIES: Away from home, the Broncos are 19-31 against the Chargers in the regular season. Denver came out with a victory in its last trip to Qualcomm Stadium, however, on Monday Night Football.

LAST TIME: Trailing 23-17 late in the third quarter, the Broncos scored 17 unanswered points, defeating the Chargers 34-23 on Monday Night Football on Oct. 19, 2009. Eddie Royal shined under the lights, returning a kickoff and a punt for touchdowns. Click here for more on the game.

Chargers
VS. ST. LOUIS RAMS
SUNDAY, NOV. 28 - 2:15 P.M. MST - FOX*
Rams THE SERIES: The Rams and Broncos have met 11 times in the regular season, with St. Louis holding a narrow 6-5 edge in the series. Since their meeting in 1979 -- which was won by the then-Los Angeles Rams -- the teams have alternated wins. If the Rams win one matchup, the Broncos have won the next, and vice versa. The Rams won the last time the two teams squared off in 2006.

LAST TIME: In their 2006 season opener, the Broncos traveled to St. Louis only to turn the ball over five times in an 18-10 loss. All of the Rams' points came on six Jeff Wilkins field goals. Click here for more on the game.

AT KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
SUNDAY, DEC. 5 - 12 P.M. CST - CBS*
THE SERIES: Away from home, the Broncos are 14-35 against the Chiefs in the regular season. Arrowhead Stadium has been a tough place for Denver to come away with a win, though it has done just that twice in the past three seasons.

LAST TIME: Denver put 20 third-quarter points on the board off a botched Kansas City fake punt, a pair of interceptions by Renaldo Hill and Andre' Goodman and a 30-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown by Goodman on the way to a 44-13 victory at Arrowhead Stadium on Dec. 6, 2009. Knowshon Moreno had two rushing touchdowns and Matt Prater was 3-for-3 on field goals. Click here for more on the game.

Chiefs
AT ARIZONA CARDINALS
SUNDAY, DEC. 12 - 2:15 P.M. MST - CBS*
THE SERIES: One of Denver's most common preseason opponents, the Cardinals will host the Broncos in the regular season in 2010 for just the ninth time. Denver is undefeated against Arizona, holding a 7-0-1 regular-season series lead. The tie came in the teams' first meeting in 1973, and every game since then has been a Broncos victory.

LAST TIME: Champ Bailey had two interceptions to lead the Broncos defense, but it was the offense with two touchdown passes by Jay Cutler and two touchdown runs by Mike Bell that powered a 37-20 win over Arizona, giving Cutler his first win as an NFL starter on Dec. 17, 2006. Click here for more on the game.

Cardinals
AT OAKLAND RAIDERS
SUNDAY, DEC. 19 - 1:15 P.M. PST - CBS*
THE SERIES: Denver is behind in the regular-season series against Oakland on the road, 20-30. The Broncos have won six of the last seven in Oakland, however.

LAST TIME: The Broncos jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead and forced two turnovers in the first quarter on the way to a 23-3 victory against the Raiders at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum in Week 3 last season. Click here for more on the game.

Raiders
VS. HOUSTON TEXANS
SUNDAY, DEC. 26 - 2:05 P.M. MST - CBS*
Texans THE SERIES: The Broncos and Texans have faced off twice in the regular season -- once in Denver in 2004, and again in Houston in 2007. Both times the home team won by a score of 31-13.

LAST TIME: On "Battle Red Day" at Reliant Stadium, the Texans jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead and never trailed the rest of the way in a 31-13 Thursday night victory on Dec. 13, 2007. The Broncos managed just 72 rushing yards to the Texans' 158. Click here for more on the game.

VS. SAN DIEGO CHARGERS
SUNDAY, JAN. 2 - 2:15 P.M. MST - CBS*
Chargers THE SERIES: The Broncos hold a decisive edge at home against the Chargers -- 35-14-1 -- in the regular-season series. The teams have split the previous two matchups at INVESCO Field at Mile High.

LAST TIME: The Chargers put three touchdowns and four field goals on the board en route to a 32-3 victory at INVESCO Field at Mile High. The Broncos committed three turnovers and turned the ball over on downs twice in the Nov. 22, 2009 contest. Click here for more on the game.
