What would fans be surprised to know about you?
I’m fascinated with weather and the paranormal; I have a pet rabbit that’s litter trained, follows us around the house, and acts like a dog; and I’ve been driving the same 1997 manual transmission 4-Runner since 2004. She’s a tank with over 220k miles on it and still runs like a champ!
What has been your favorite Broncos moment?
There have been so many incredible Broncos moments, but one that really sticks out was getting to share the entire Super Bowl XLVIII experience with my mom. Mr. Bowlen was beyond generous in allowing us to invite one guest to join us on our trip to New York, and like most of the ladies, I invited my mom. Although we didn’t win the game, the best part of the whole trip was getting to experience it all with her. We flew on the charter together, shared a hotel room, explored the city, and she got to go to the game with the other moms and guests. It was priceless having her there with me to share that once in a lifetime experience!
What is your favorite part of being a Denver Broncos Cheerleader veteran?
I love seeing the excitement and curiosity that the Rookies bring. I love seeing the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years finding their place and becoming leaders, and I love being able to guide the younger ladies and show them what it truly means, and how special it is, to be a part of this organization. Each new season presents the opportunity to apply all that you’ve learned and experienced over the years. Being a veteran, you have a better understanding of what to expect and how to be the best possible representative of your teammates and the Broncos organization.
When did you first start dancing / cheerleading?
I started dancing when I was about 10. I grew up dancing on a competitive company in a studio setting, and I trained in ballet, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, and hip hop. I wasn’t on the cheer or poms squad in high school, so I experienced my first kick line and first pair of pom poms when I made Broncos as a Rookie in 2008.
Ignorance and bad table manners
“Every day, think as you wake up, today I am fortunate to be alive. I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others; to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts towards others. I am not going to get angry or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can.” This quote by the Dalai Lama is my absolute favorite, and I have it in a frame by my bathroom sink so that I can read it daily.
Craziest or most memorable Halloween costume?
That’s a toss-up between my giant inflatable pumpkin costume and my giraffe costume. Both were for the Junior Cheerleader Halloween clinics, and they were a hit with the kids!
Favorite TV shows
I honestly don’t watch much TV, but thanks to DVR I have a variety of shows recorded for those rare moments when I have down time. I record The Profit, Ghost Hunters/Ghost Adventures, Deadliest Catch, Gold Rush, Modern Family, Ridiculousness, and So You Think You Can Dance. I also love watching Golf and Sports Center.
Favorite time of year
Concert season at Red Rocks and Football Season!!
Favorite meal or restaurant
Favorite junk food
Haribo sour gummy bears and Haagen-Dazs Caramel Du Leche ice cream
Bad habit I'm trying to break
It’s boring, but I have a really bad habit of not drinking enough water.
Snowboarding, Golf, Yoga, Hiking… anything outdoors. I went paddle boarding once last summer and I can’t wait to try it again this year.
Funniest question you've gotten as a dancer / cheerleader?
There’s been some interesting questions over the years. One that sticks out is when we were in uniform at an event one day, and I had a fan ask if she could use my sharpie to draw a mustache on me before taking a picture with us. I politely had to decline.
Song for the first dance ever learned was...
The first Broncos dance I ever learned was to “Elevator” by Timbaland. The first dance I ever did on stage was when I was 10 years old and I danced to “In The Air Tonight” by Phil Collins.
All-time favorite dance routine you've done?
There have been a lot of good ones, but performing our “2-Step” routine at the Super Bowl was pretty incredible. It was one of those magic moments where you can just feel the energy of your teammates and you know that it was the best you have ever performed together. It was also right after the Broncos scored their only touchdown of the game and successfully converted, so the crowd was really into it.
What sports do you enjoy watching and/or playing?
Football has always been my favorite sport to watch, and I played soccer from when I was 7 until I graduated high school. I’ve always been a bit of a tomboy when it comes to sports, and I’ve played just about every sport there is. I love playing golf during the warmer months, and in the winter I spend most of my time snowboarding in our beautiful mountains.
What I love most about my fellow DBC's
My teammates are like sunshine. They’re supportive, hard working, inspiring, funny, intelligent, and most importantly, they’re all genuinely kind women. My teammates are an incredible source of support, inspiration and happiness. For example, we rehearse on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and there are times when you’ve had a hard day at work, or you just sat through horrendous traffic to get to practice, or maybe you’re experiencing other challenges in your personal life. Once you walk into the locker room and see your teammates, you forget all about anything that’s not going great in your life, and you’re just happy and appreciative to be a part of this team. Being a part of DBC is surrounding yourself with one-of-a-kind women that support one another and that push each other to be better.
A past accomplishment I'm really proud of is...
I’m really proud and honored to have been awarded Rookie of the Year in 2008, and to have been voted by my teammates as the 2014 Denver Broncos Cheerleader of the Year. It means so much to have received both awards, but being recognized and honored by my teammates is a feeling I will never forget.
# of siblings
I have one brother who is a year and 10 months younger than me. I hit the sibling jackpot! My brother and I were inseparable growing up. We hardly ever fought, and we’re still incredibly close. He’s one of the most kind and intelligent people I have ever known, and I’m so grateful to have him as my brother!
Dream vacation location
I would love to go to the Maldives and Bora Bora.
Dogs or Cats?
Dogs all the way … and my Rabbit who thinks she’s a dog.
My best subject in school was
New Year's resolution you make every year, and break soon after
To stop eating sugar. It never lasts long.
Favorite 80s or 90s song
There are so many good ones! The first that came to mind was “Straight Up Now Tell Me” by Paula Abdul. I loved listening to Paula Abdul, Mariah Carey, and Whitney Houston when I was little.
Most interesting class I've ever taken
Legal Research and Writing. Reading case law can be fascinating, and it’s very intellectually stimulating. I’ve read so many different cases, and I love researching a set of facts to find and apply the relevant statutes and case law. It can be very challenging, but also very rewarding, and the skills that I learned in that class have been hugely beneficial in my paralegal career.
Who has been your greatest inspiration?
My mom, my dad, and my grandma. They have really encouraged me to chase my dreams, but always reminded me to never lose sight of who I am in the process.
What is the best thing about Broncos fans?
Denver has the best fans in the NFL! They have unwavering dedication and love for their team regardless of whether we win or lose.
What is your best advice to kids?
Follow your own dreams and follow your own heart. The key to success in anything that you do is consistent effort over a long period of time. Anything is possible if you just believe in yourself and work hard! Don't pay attention to the superficiality in the world. Be grateful for all that you have, and always be kind and courteous to absolutely everyone that you meet.
